When DiGi was launched in 1995, the mobile network was heralded as Malaysia's first in establishing a fully digital mobile coverage with the wireless provider's GSM 1800 MHz infrastructures. DiGi also pioneered the rolling-out of GPRS and EDGE coverage in May 2004. GSM technology, in essence, brought forth the digital era in mobile telecommunications, resulting in improved voice clarity and the introduction of mobile data services.

In 2008, after years of steady growth and continued improvement of the network's services, DiGi acquired a license to operate 3G coverage in Malaysia. Such major leap in technology resulted in much improved data transfer speeds and also introduced video calling and multimedia streaming.

Today, DiGi serves more than 8.8 million subscribers, reaching virtually 100% of the entire Malaysian population. By comparison, the mobile service provider ranks third among the largest wireless networks in the country, with a market share of about 24%, lagging slightly behind Maxis (39%) and Celcom (31%).
