A joint venture between Malaysia's Maxis Communications Berhad (74%) and Sindya Securities and Investments Private Limited (26%), the Aircel Group is the fifth largest GSM service operator with more than 51 million subscribers or an equivalent of 6.72% of the GSM mobile market share in India. Additionally, Aircel also has CDMA infrastructures deployed across the country.
Today, Aircel's coverage spans across India's 23 telecom circles, which include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar & Jharkhand, Chennai, Delhi & NCR, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, North East, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Rest of Maharashtra & Goa, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh East, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Such expansive coverage was the result of the telecom's goal to be a pan-Indian service provider by 2010.
Aircel started its first cellular operations in 1999. In 2005, the wireless network's coverage expanded further to other telecom circles especially in the eastern regions. The expansion continued until such time the mobile network successfully completed its full nationwide coverage in 2010.
Today, Aircel provides a complete range of competitive telecommunications services to its millions of customers across the country, providing local calling, national and international long distance, roaming, SMS, and data services with its GSM and CDMA infrastructures. Customers may also choose from Aircel's cost-effective and hassle-free prepaid plans, which require no service contracts or monthly bills.
